International Animation Day

Today commemorates Charles-Émile Reynaud’s animated picture show “Théâtre Optique”  at the Grevin Museum in Paris, 1892. This marked one of the first displays of ‘moving pictures’ in history. To honor the impact this animated work has had and to celebrate animation in general, the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) proclaimed today a holiday in 2002. On this day the ASIFA holds screenings of animated films and also does international exchange programs. Take some time today to explore animation across the world.
